Secrets of Mt. Mantap

Where in the World is Mount Mantap? Mount Mantap is approximately 17 Km North-Northwest from P’unggye-yok, a rail-road station, Kilju County, North Hamgyeong Province, North Korea DPR.

North Korea's nuclear tests and their results have been of great interest to us, but the way the lead-up to these two tests has been kept a secret in such a small country has been mostly overlooked. And there has been absolutely no information regarding human rights abuses or radioactive contamination in the area.

The terrain around Mt. Mantap in Kilju, North Hamgyong Province, where the second nuclear test took place, rises to 2,000 m above sea level and is largely virgin forest, like at Mt. Baekdu. Building a large underground nuclear test facility in such a forest would require enormous amounts of manpower and investment.

This GlobalSecurity.org article continues:

In the late 1990s, the South Korean Government became aware that a tunnel was being dug in the area. According to another report, US intelligence had been monitoring the Kilju area since 2002. US satellite imagery detected mounds left from the digging of tunnels. It was possible to estimate the depth of the tunnel based on the amount of soil removed.

Since late August 2004, US intelligence had reportedly monitored activity consistent with preparations for a nuclear test. The activities included the movement of materials around several suspected test sites, including one near a location where intelligence agencies reported in 2003 a series of tests of conventional explosives. Although there were several tunnels deep enough and with suitable terrain for a test throughout the country, there was only one place with a lot of activity.

By late April 2005, there were reports that North Koreans were constructing a reviewing stand and filling in a tunnel, both signs that an underground nuclear test was imminent.

Yemenia Flight 626 left Sanaa at 9:30 p.m. for what was expected to be a 4½-hour flight. The airline has three regular flights per week to Moroni, off the east coast of Africa about 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles) south of Yemen.

Most of the 143 passengers aboard the Airbus A310 were Comoran, an official at Sanaa's international airport said. The aircraft also carried a crew of 11, for a total of 154 people on board.

The crash is the second involving an Airbus jet in a month. On June 1, an Air France Airbus A330 Flight AF 447 crashed off Brazil while en route from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paris, France. All 228 aboard are presumed dead. The cause remains under investigation.

Power of prayer

Power of prayerIn a small town, a guy decided to open a Pub, right opposite a Church. The church priest & its congregation campaigned to block the opening of the pub with petitions and daily prayers against this business.

Work however continued to progress. When it was almost complete and was about to open, a powerful thunderbolt of lightning struck the pub building and it was burnt to the ground.

The church people were smug about his disaster. The pub owner sued the church authorities saying that the prayers of the church people were directly responsible for the destruction of the premises.

In its response to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility and any connection that their prayers were the reason for the pub owners loss.

Having looked over the paperwork at the hearing the Judge commented:

"I don't know how I'm going to decide on this case, it appears we have a pub owner who believes in the power of prayer, and we have an entire church that does not"

Demerol Overdose

Demerol OverdoseDemerol, also commonly referred to as Pethidine (INN) or meperidine (USAN) is a fast-acting opioid analgesic drug. In the United States and Canada, it is more commonly known as meperidine or by its brand name Demerol. Pethidine is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe pain, and is delivered as its hydrochloride salt in tablets, as a syrup, or by intramuscular or intravenous injection.

Michael Jackson’s cardiac arrest may have been the result of using Demerol, a powerful synthetic narcotic drug. Reportedly Michael received an injection of the painkiller before his breathing slowed and he suffered cardiac arrest. As a result, the keyword popularity of Demerol is increasing because of the circumstance that possibly caused the death of MJ.

Well-known people who have been involved in hazardous use or harmful use of pethidine, or who have exhibited dependence on the drug, include:
* David Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy
* Michael Jackson, pop singer

What is Demerol?

Demerol is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. It is similar to morphine. Demerol is used to treat moderate-to-severe pain. Demerol may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Demerol other names

Demerol is also known as: isonipecaine; lidol; pethanol; piridosal; Algil; Alodan; Centralgin; Dispadol; Dolantin; Petidin Dolargan (in Poland); Dolestine; Dolosal; Dolsin; Mefedina.

Jeffry Picower Netted $5 Billion From Ponzi Scheme

In an era when billions of dollars are being tossed about in financial collapses and government bailouts, remarkably little attention has been paid to Jeffry Picower's extraordinary success with Bernie Madoff. If Picower has penetrated the popular consciousness at all, it is as a Madoff victim.

Between December 1995 and December 2008, Picower and his family withdrew from their various Madoff accounts $5.1 billion more than they invested with the self-confessed swindler, according to a lawsuit filed by the trustee who is trying to recover money for those Madoff defrauded.

The Picowers' withdrawals from Madoff Ponzi accounts peaked at over $1 billion in 2003. It now appears that the biggest winner in Madoff's scheme may not have been Madoff at all, but a secretive businessman named Jeffry Picower.

One question is the role that Picower's charitable giving played in all of this. The amount Picower withdrew for his foundation is separate from the quarterly withdrawals for his personal accounts. During the 1995-2008 time span, Picower took out about $291 million from Madoff for the foundation account. During the same period, the foundation doled out a little under $207 million in donations, according to tax forms.

Perhaps the most pertinent question: If Picower withdrew $5.1 billion in "profit" from Madoff, where did all the money go? The Picowers own a home in Palm Beach that is appraised at a little over $28 million. They also have a 28.4-acre compound in Connecticut valued at $4.5 million. A search of numerous online sources, both aggregate databases and county property records for the couple, their daughter, and the companies named in the complaint, reveals few other major assets. If someone needed the skills to hide billions of dollars, few would be better equipped than Picower, an attorney and accountant who has been described as a "tax shelter expert." Even so, it's curious our search did not even uncover a boat or plane under the Picower name.

Who is Jeffry Picower?

The Picowers' generosity to deserving charities, particularly in New York, Florida, and Massachusetts, has earned them admiration and respect. However, the image belies a more complex reality.

The Picowers gave to a host of worthy causes from the Children's Aid Society to the New York City Ballet, but Jeffry Picower's passion centered on health issues, particularly funding for medical research. On December 1, 2005, the couple made a rare public appearance at a ceremony at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to dedicate a new center to study the brain, the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory. The Picowers' gift of $50 million, spread over five years, was the single largest in the school's history. In a video of the ceremony, Nobel Prize winning Japanese scientist Susumu Tonegawa told the crowd that without the Picowers there would be no institute. The Picowers stood by silently as Tonegawa unveiled a portrait of the couple to conclude the ceremony.

The Picowers' portrait, as it hangs in the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Picower Foundation gave $50 million to MIT, the school's single largest gift.

The gift to MIT was the largest single donation to an outside entity the Picower Foundation had ever made, according to tax forms the foundation filed. Prior to late 1995, when Madoff trustee Picard's records start tracking Picower's Madoff activity, the Picower Foundation was relatively small in size and scope. At year's end in 1994, it had assets of just under $75 million and had donated $375,754. By 2007, it was reporting about $958 million in assets and about $23.4 million in donations for the year.

Picower's attention to cutting-edge medicine was the sole focus of a second foundation, The Picower Institute for Medical Research, created to find cures for human diseases. He launched the Institute in 1991 with a $10 million donation from the Picower Foundation. Madoff served as a trustee of the Institute.

In 2001, the St. Petersburg Times revealed that Picower used both his foundations and a private corporation called PharmaSciences, of which he was the majority shareholder, to gain control of a potentially lucrative medical discovery. In 1999, Picower merged PharmaSciences with a for-profit spinoff of his institute called Cytokine Networks, essentially negotiating with himself. The merged company called Cytokine PharmaSciences had the rights to develop a new drug that could help minimize such illnesses as arthritis and multiple sclerosis. The newspaper raised the question of whether Picower had shortchanged his nonprofit in the deal.

An IRS audit concluded that the Picower Foundation had not jeopardized its tax status or incurred extra liability during the period in question. The Foundation's lawyer William Zabel provided ProPublica with a letter from the IRS dated September 2006 that he said "cleared the Foundation." Addressed to Barbara Picower, the letter is from the IRS' Office of Exempt Organizations and formally accepts the Foundation's tax returns. Zabel also said that shares Picower received from the merger were given to other charitable organizations.

The publicity-shy Picower is no stranger to lawsuits or regulators, a trip through several decades of legal and regulatory filings reveals. In 1984, the SEC cited him for a late disclosure over how much he owned in a company called Bradford National Corporation. The SEC filing alleged that Picower was part of a scheme to take over the company.

A year later Picower had to pay out a $21-million settlement when shareholders sued over the collapse of Physicians Computer Network. Picower controlled 45 percent of the stock and chaired the company before it went belly up. In 1989, Picower paid an undisclosed settlement over a questionable tax shelter he helped set up years earlier for a client. In 1990, it was Picower's turn to recover money - from a settlement involving infamous insider trader Ivan Boesky. Picower had been one of his investors.

Perhaps the most revealing case against Picower was a lawsuit filed for failure to pay for renovations on his New York office. Picower alleged that general contractor McHugh, DiVincent Alessi had done such a bad job on his office that the toilets didn't even flush properly, according to Jeremy Morley, the firm's lawyer at the time. Rather than take Picower at his word, the judge decided the jury members should see for themselves. Arriving by city bus from the courtroom, the judge, with jury in tow, made a surprise visit to Picower's office.

"The jury wandered around, looking at the office, testing the toilet," Morley said. "They quickly realized that the case was full of crap in more ways than one."

The judge awarded Morely's client what Picower owed them and some of their attorney fees, according to the lawyer.

Picower's legal and regulatory history was outlined in an article by Forbes Magazine. The 2002 article, which didn't mention Picower's activities with Madoff, said Picower was "worth at least $300 million." That same year, the trustee reports, Picower's quarterly withdrawals from Madoff totaled $895 million.

Michael Jackson's Millions

Michael Jackson's MillionsSince the early 1980s, Michael Jackson pocketed more than $300 million from sales of his recordings. That is a big sum of million. But when it came to handling the bigger sums the singer would go on to amass, though, Jackson never really got a grip on the numbers. Put simply, from millions dollars of revenue to millions dollars of debt. Now, that is plain erratic money mismanagement.

Profligate spending, a slew of legal settlements and a reliance on ever increasing bank loans blew a hole in the fortune Jackson earned over four decades of performing. Some estimates put the singer's debt at the time of his death at between $300 million to $400 million. Clearly, one of its kind, MJ is a brilliant star but unfortunately, he does not know how to manage his fortunes.

Jackson showed early investment savvy. Shelling out $47.5 million in 1985 for the rights to a catalog of music that included 251 Beatles songs was a profitable move. Those rights, as well as concerts, endorsements and music videos, would generate more than $400 million over the next two decades.

Little else about his finances was as clever. Blessed with the regular rewards from the Beatles' music and his own, Jackson started to spend. He paid $17 million in 1988 for the 2,800-acre (roughly 1,000 hectares) ranch in California that would become Neverland.

Maintaining the theme park — complete with zoo, movie theater and fairground — swallowed up about $5 million annually. As Jackson gradually retreated from work, the additional millions eaten up by plane charters, antiques, lavish gifts and legal disputes — a child-molestation case in the early 1990s cost Jackson around $20 million to settle — left a hole in his fortune. To help plug it, in 1995 the singer signed over to Sony a 50% stake in the rights to the Beatles' catalog in exchange for almost $100 million.

Things would get worse. With sponsors turned off by Jackson's private life — Pepsi and sneaker brand LA Gear, for instance, had backed him — he further lost control of his finances. Duff investments and a divorce settlement with Lisa Marie Presley helped push Jackson to increasingly use his earnings from music as collateral for loans, first from Bank of America (BoA), before Fortress Investment Group, a specialist in distressed debt, took the loans off BoA's hands. By the mid-2000s, Jackson was believed to be $270 million in debt.

With annual income from the sale of his and his catalog's music at around $19 million, according to the Wall Street Journal, Jackson was still stretched. When the singer defaulted on a loan in March last year, pushing Neverland into foreclosure, private-equity firm Colony Capital stepped in to bail him out. The 50 concerts planned for London later this year could have netted Jackson as much as $100 million, with a possible world tour to follow generating five times that amount. To Jackson's debtors, if not to the singer himself, that sure would have added up.

Don't Criticize Blindly - Blogging Etiquette

One of my blog post "How To Rank Number One On Bing" received a comment from one Daily Beez who basically said that the article is pretty useless than helpful. And she said she was just being honest. I say she is rude not honest. Below is her comment "That is not really what I am after when I clicked your link so this is pretty useless than helpful. Just being honest."

What irked me is that her comment is so vague without elaborating what she is looking for. Without telling what is she is looking for, it thus only herself know what she is looking for.

When you came across an article that doesn't provide all the information that you need, move on (there are a lot more better articles in the Internet). You don't have to criticize blindly. If you disagree with the author, state your argument. If you like the article, be generous with your comment. But don't tell the author that his or her article is useless.

In addition to that, the reason to post a comment is to leave a link (so that the author or other visitors can visit your site and increase your visitor traffic) and to compliment the author. For the case of "Daily Beez", I can't even return a visit to her site because she made her commentator profile private. So she is not interested in traffic or social networking and I guessed she is just taking pot-shot at people's article.

Make Money From Michael Jackson

Make Money From Michael JacksonWith the departure of Michael Jackson, this blog received some interesting traffic from the keyword "Make Money From Michael Jackson". Michael Jackson himself used to make lots of money but when he died, accountants estimate that he is in a whooping $400 million debt. A sad story of poor kid becoming rich and then turned into rag. The old saying of Money doesn't buy happiness is indeed true.

And for normal people like us, can we actually make money from Michael Jackson. Yes, for a short term. With the death of Michael Jackson, his memorabilia and collectibles are now worth more money. They are even buyers willing to buy his crystals crusted one hand glove. CNN also reports that demand may grow for Jackson merchandise.

If you did not owned any Michael Jackson's memorabilia, collectibles and merchandise but do have a blog, there is still a chance of making money from Michael Jackson. How?

1. Getting traffic from Michael Jackson

Now is the time to blog about Michael Jackson before and after his death. Fans will be scouring the web for info on his funeral and obituaries and maybe good memories on how great Michael Jackson was. There was also rumor circulating saying that he intend to convert to Islam to be in peace with his misfortune.

2. Monetised your Michael Jackson blog

With sufficient traffic, monetised your blog with ads scripts from Ads Network such as Google AdSense or BidVertiser or similar.

Who knows, with enough blog posts on Michael Jackson, you might be able to compile the materials and turn it into an eBook or an online biography.

3. Michael Jackson Affiliate Program

Creating an Affiliate Program centering on MJ is remote but not impossible. Weeks ago when the Swine Flu Outbreak started, there were bloggers looking for such thing as Swine Flu Affiliate Program.

4. Create domain names dedicated to Michael Jackson

MJ will be as popular as the late Elvis Presley. Fans will be eager for sites that are created in dedication to MJ.

The above tips seem far fetched as you may questioned about the traffic and potential buyers. There is always risks involved and if your are not losing money, you may still lose the time spend on it. But there is one consolation, Michael Jackson is still popular and he does have a large number of fans and followers. You just need to be a little bit more creative in making money from MJ.

Top 10 Michael Jackson Moments

Michael Jackson MomentsThe tragedy of Michael Jackson's death at age 50, reportedly from cardiac arrest, pales in comparison to the tragedy of his life. To understand all that Jackson had and lost requires wiping away three decades of plastic surgeries that deformed him (see Many Faces of MJ), erratic behavior that made his name synonymous with the warping powers of fame, and a 2005 trial for sexually abusing a child that, even though he was spared of any finding of wrongdoing, made him a pariah to all but the most brainwashed of fans.

A look back at the storied highs and troubled lows of Michael Jackson's career, compiled from the TIME.com.

1. A Breakout Star - As a scrawny 11-year-old from Gary, Indiana in child-sized bellbottoms and a radiant smile, Michael Jackson first stepped onto the scene at age 11 as part of the unforgettable Jackson 5.

2. Thriller - Jackson's 1982 album Thriller became a worldwide sensation and established the artist as a transcendent superstar.

3. The Single Glove Debuts - In a 1983 television special commemorating the 25th anniversary of Motown, Jackson debuted the crystal-encrusted glove that would become his most recognizable wardrobe hallmark. It quickly became a sensation: so many kids wanted to imitate Jacko’s style that by 1984 a New Jersey high school had banned students from wearing a single white glove.

4. Michael Jackson's Hair Up in Flames - A 25-five-year-old Jackson was filming a Pepsi commercial in Los Angeles on Jan. 27, 1984 when a pyrotechnic display exploded behind him, burning his glossy Jheri curls as he sang "Billie Jean" in front of 3,000 fans. Jackson covered his head with a coat to put the fire out, and was later hospitalized with second-degree burns on his scalp.

5. Moonwalking - All the unverified accusations and nose jobs in the world can't change the fact that when Michael Jackson glided across the floor in skinny black pants and bright white socks, he looked like the coolest person in the world. His ability to keep one leg straight as he moved the other backwards was an act of dexterity and timing. Jackson debuted the dance on a 1983 television show, but the 1984 music video for "Billie Jean" made it iconic. Where can we get one of those light-up sidewalks?

6. A Private Playground - Nestled in the hills of California's Santa Ynez Valley near Los Angeles, Michael Jackson's 2,800-acre estate was a child's fantasy. Neverland, a sprawling theme park that took its name from the fantasy world of Peter Pan, came complete with amusement park rides, arcade games and a private petting zoo. Among his companions at Neverland, which Jackson purchased for $17 million in 1987, was Bubbles, a suspenders-clad chimpanzee who slept in Jackson's bedroom and used his personal toilet.

7. An Unexpected Union - It was a match made in tabloid heaven: Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of the King of Rock n' Roll, and Michael Jackson, the eccentric King of Pop, married in secret the Dominican Republic in May 1994. In the end, the marriage didn't last. Presley and Jackson would divorce two years later.

8. Going Over the Edge - One minute, Michael Jackson was blowing kisses to fans from the balcony of his presidential suite at Berlin's Adlon Hotel. The next, he was clutching his 9-month-old son, Prince Michael II, with one arm as the child, with its face shrouded in a blanket, dangled precariously over the edge. Michael Jackson dangles his child Prince Michael II over a balcony of the Adlon Hotel in Berlin on Tuesday Nov. 19, 2002.

9. Living With Michael Jackson - One of the most revealing — and disturbing — glimpses into Michael Jackson's private life came during a blockbuster interview the pop star held with British journalist Martin Bashir in 2003. Some 27 million viewers tuned in to Living With Michael Jackson, a two-hour documentary based on eights months of unprecedented access to the music icon. Jackson was depicted spending millions during a Las Vegas shopping spree for oversized vases and other gaudy furnishings, and acknowledged to Bashir that he had slept in the same bed with young boys. But he insisted it was "sweet" and "the most loving thing to do," denying any sexual interest: "I am Peter Pan," he memorably insisted. Jackson's comments helped lead to child molestation charges in 2005.

10. Michael Jackson On Trial - In December 2003, months after the airing of a documentary in which Jackson held hands with a child and outlined his habit of sharing a bed with young boys, Jackson was charged with child molestation, alcohol and conspiracy charges that carried nearly 20 in prison. In June 2005, after some 30 hours of deliberation, the jury acquitted Jackson of all charges.

Cardiac Arrest is Deadlier Than Heart Attack

During cardiac arrest, the heart actually stops beating and quivers with uncoordinated contractions. Unless a defibrillator is used to shock the heart back into a normal rhythm, death is inevitable. Someone experiencing a cardiac arrest generally collapses, loses consciousness, and stops breathing.

Despite dramatic TV portrayals of patients being revived from cardiac arrests, the chances of survival in real life are slim. If a bystander performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the heart can be shocked back into a normal rhythm, the chances of survival are much better.

About 95% of people who experience a cardiac arrest die before reaching the hospital.

A heart attack, on the other hand, is a reduction in blood flow to the heart—which can cause a crushing chest pain known as angina, along with sweating, nausea, and a sense of impending doom. In contrast to cardiac arrest, heart attack patients may not lose consciousness. If they get rapid medical treatment, the prognosis is generally better.

Heart attacks are more common in those with heart disease, high blood pressure, people who are obese, and those with diabetes. Cardiac arrest, on the other hand, can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including heart disease, drowning, electrocution, choking, and traumatic injury.

The American Heart Association recommends that people know the warning signs of cardiac arrest (loss of consciousness, lack of pulse), call 911, and perform CPR until help arrives.

What is Heart Attack

A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to the heart is severely reduced or cut off. The blood supply is usually blocked by narrowing arteries or a blood clot. If the blood flow isn't restored quickly, the lack of oxygen can damage the heart muscle, and it will begin to die.

Causes of Heart Attack

Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of heart attacks. The condition arises when fatty material called plaque builds up on the walls of blood vessel. The plaque can burst, and a blood clot can form where the rupture occured. If the clot is big enough, it can restrict the blood flow through the artery. In rare cases, a coronary artery will spasm, stopping the blood flow to a part of the heart. Drugs such as cocaine can set off this process.

Heart Attack Risk Factors
- Smoking
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Not enough physical activity
- Obesity or excess body fat, especially at the waist
- Diabetes
- Family history of heart attack
- Aging
- Men are generally more likely to suffer heart attacks than women, and they tend to have them earlier in life.

Stress, drinking too much alcohol and poor nutrition can contribute to or worsen some of the risk factors above.

Symptoms of Heart Attack
- Discomfort for more than a few minutes in the center of the chest that feels like pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain. The episodes could stop and recur.
- Discomfort can extend to other areas of the upper body, including the shoulders, arms, back, stomach, jaw and teeth.
- Shortness of breath
- Sweating
- Fainting

Women may exhibit different or less visible symptoms for men. In addition to the warning signs listed above, women may feel abdominal pain or what they think is heartburn, clammy skin, dizziness, and/or unusual or inexplicable fatigue.

What is Cardiac Arrest

Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, preventing blood and oxygen from getting to vital organs. If the heart isn't shocked into beating again using an automated external defibrillator, death can occur within minutes, which is called sudden cardiac arrest.

With each minute that passes without cardiopulmonary resuscitation or defibrillator, the likelihood of survival becomes 7 percent to 10 percent less, according to the American Heart Association.

Causes of Cardiac Arrest

Coronary heart disease is the most common underlying cause of cardiac arrest. Most cardiac arrests are caused by abnormal heart rhythms, called arrhythmia. Arrhythmia can cause the heart to beat much faster or slower and eventually can make the heart stop.

Respiratory arrest, electrocution, drowning, choking and trauma also can result in cardiac arrest. Some people experience cardiac arrest for no known reason.

Risk Factors of Cardiac Arrest
- Smoking
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Not enough physical activity
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Not enough blood pumping from the heart
- Prior instance of cardiac arrest or heat attack
- Significant change in electrolytes
- Hyperthyroidism
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Taking drugs that affect heart rhythm
- Using drugs such as cocaine or amphetamines

Symptoms of Cardiac Arrest

Cardiac arrest often comes about without warning. Symptoms include:
- Loss of consciousness
- Breathing stops
- Pulse stops
- Blood pressure stops
- Blackout, chest pain, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, palpitations, shortness of breath or vomiting cardiac arrest

Top 10 Tips to Improve Your Gas Mileage

Improve Your Gas MileageAfter months of lull in the world's oil price, it started to increase again. Using more fuel for your car thus will increase more spending. It is never too late to increase your gas mileage with the same gas expenditure.

Frequent trips to the gas station may be a sign that you’re not maximizing your car’s fuel efficiency. As it turns out, trading your ride in for a hybrid isn’t the only way to improve your gas mileage. Here are some simple pointers to get started (when in doubt, consult your mechanic).

1. Lighten your load. Take out your golf clubs, toolbox and other heavy items when you don’t need them. Any extra weight reduces your car’s fuel efficiency. But don't remove your spare tire.

2. Cruise driving. If you are traveling on highway, use cruise control as much as possible because driving at a constant speed increases your gas mileage. Plus, it sure makes that daily commute a little more bearable.

3. Overdrive. Switch into overdrive to decrease the engine’s speed and save gas.

4. Keep the idling to a minimum. Instead, turn off the engine while you’re waiting for your pals to pick up something from the store or finish getting ready.

5. Don't accelerate indiscriminately. Gradually accelerate to waste less gas. Driving faster doesn't mean you can beat the traffic light.

6. Maintain your tire pressure. Ensure that your tires are always properly inflated. In addition to better gas mileage, it will help your tires last longer.

7. Don't be thrifty with motor oil. Use the grade of motor oil recommended by your car’s manufacturer, whether it be 5W-30, 5W-20 or 10W-30.

8. Regular maintenance. Give your engine a tune up on a regular basis.

9. Air-con consumes more gas. Only turn on the air conditioning when you’re dripping sweat and threatened by heat stroke. Okay, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but you get the idea. Use it sparingly.

10. Reduce drag. Take off bike or luggage racks when you aren’t using them. They interfere with the aerodynamics of your vehicle and cause drag, which causes your car to expend more energy than necessary.

Saudi Royals Links To Al Qaeda Extremists

Al Qaeda ExtremistsDocuments gathered by lawyers for the families of Sept. 11 victims provide new evidence of extensive financial support for Al Qaeda and other extremist groups by members of the Saudi Arabia royal family, but the material may never find its way into court because of legal and diplomatic obstacles.

The case has put the Obama administration in the middle of a political and legal dispute, with the Justice Department siding with the Saudis in court last month in seeking to kill further legal action. Adding to the intrigue, classified American intelligence documents related to Saudi finances were leaked anonymously to lawyers for the families. The Justice Department had the lawyers’ copies destroyed and now wants to prevent a judge from even looking at the material.

The Saudis and their defenders in Washington have long denied links to terrorists, and they have mounted an aggressive and, so far, successful campaign to beat back the allegations in federal court based on a claim of sovereign immunity.

Allegations of Saudi links to terrorism have been the subject of years of government investigations and furious debate. Critics have said that some members of the Saudi ruling class pay off terrorist groups in part to keep them from being more active in their own country.

But the thousands of pages of previously undisclosed documents compiled by lawyers for the Sept. 11 families and their insurers represented an unusually detailed look at some of the evidence.

Internal Treasury Department documents obtained by the lawyers under the Freedom of Information Act, for instance, said that a prominent Saudi charity, the International Islamic Relief Organization, heavily supported by members of the Saudi royal family, showed “support for terrorist organizations” at least through 2006.

A self-described Qaeda operative in Bosnia said in an interview with lawyers in the lawsuit that another charity largely controlled by members of the royal family, the Saudi High Commission for Aid to Bosnia, provided money and supplies to the terrorist group in the 1990s and hired militant operatives like himself.

Another witness in Afghanistan said in a sworn statement that in 1998 he had witnessed an emissary for a leading Saudi prince, Turki al-Faisal, hand a check for one billion Saudi riyals (now worth about $267 million) to a top Taliban leader.

And a confidential German intelligence report gave a line-by-line description of tens of millions of dollars in bank transfers, with dates and dollar amounts, made in the early 1990s by Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz and other members of the Saudi royal family to another charity that was suspected of financing militants’ activities in Pakistan and Bosnia.

The new documents, provided to The New York Times by the lawyers, are among several hundred thousand pages of investigative material obtained by the Sept. 11 families and their insurers as part of a long-running civil lawsuit seeking to hold Saudi Arabia and its royal family liable for financing Al Qaeda.

Only a fraction of the documents have been entered into the court record, and much of the new material is unknown even to the Saudi lawyers in the case.

The documents provide no smoking gun connecting the royal family to the events of Sept. 11, 2001. And the broader links rely at times on a circumstantial, connect-the-dots approach to tie together Saudi princes, Middle Eastern charities, suspicious transactions and terrorist groups.

Saudi lawyers and supporters say that the links are flimsy and exploit stereotypes about terrorism, and that the country is being sued because it has deep pockets and was home to 15 of the 19 hijackers.

“In looking at all the evidence the families brought together, I have not seen one iota of evidence that Saudi Arabia had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks,” Michael Kellogg, a Washington lawyer representing Prince Muhammad al-Faisal al-Saud in the lawsuit, said in an interview.

He and other defense lawyers said that rather than supporting Al Qaeda, the Saudis were sworn enemies of its leader, Osama bin Laden, who was exiled from Saudi Arabia, his native country, in 1996. “It’s an absolute tragedy what happened to them, and I understand their anger,” Mr. Kellogg said of the victims’ families. “They want to find those responsible, but I think they’ve been disserved by their lawyers by bringing claims without any merit against the wrong people.”

The Saudi Embassy in Washington declined to comment.

Two federal judges and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals have already ruled against the 7,630 people represented in the lawsuit, made up of survivors of the attacks and family members of those killed, throwing out the suit on the ground that the families cannot bring legal action in the United States against a sovereign nation and its leaders.

The Supreme Court is expected to decide this week whether to hear an appeal, but the families’ prospects dimmed last month when the Justice Department sided with the Saudis in their immunity claim and urged the court not to consider the appeal.

The Justice Department said a 1976 law on sovereign immunity protected the Saudis from liability and noted that “potentially significant foreign relations consequences” would arise if such suits were allowed to proceed.

“Cases like this put the U.S. government in an extremely difficult position when it has to make legal arguments, even when they are the better view of the law, that run counter to those of terrorist victims,” said John Bellinger, a former State Department lawyer who was involved in the Saudi litigation.

Senior Obama administration officials held a private meeting on Monday with 9/11 family members to speak about progress in cracking down on terrorist financing. Administration officials at the meeting largely sidestepped questions about the lawsuit, according to participants. But the official who helped lead the meeting, Stuart A. Levey, the under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, has been outspoken in his criticism of wealthy Saudis, saying they have helped to finance terrorism.

Even if the 9/11 families were to get their trial in the lawsuit, they might have difficulty getting some of their new material into evidence. Some would most likely be challenged on grounds it was irrelevant or uncorroborated hearsay, or that it related to Saudis who were clearly covered by sovereign immunity.

And if the families were to clear those hurdles, two intriguing pieces of evidence in the Saudi puzzle might still remain off limits.

One is a 28-page, classified section of the 2003 joint Congressional inquiry into the Sept. 11 attacks. The secret section is believed to discuss intelligence on Saudi financial links to two hijackers, and the Saudis themselves urged at the time that it be made public. President George W. Bush declined to do so.

Kristen Breitweiser, an advocate for Sept. 11 families, whose husband was killed in the World Trade Center, said in an interview that during a White House meeting in February between President Obama and victims’ families, the president told her that he was willing to make the pages public.

But she said she had not heard from the White House since then.

The other evidence that may not be admissible consists of classified documents leaked to one of the law firms representing the families, Motley Rice of South Carolina, which is headed by Ronald Motley, a well-known trial lawyer who won lucrative lawsuits involving asbestos and tobacco.

Lawyers for the firm say someone anonymously slipped them 55 documents that contained classified government material relating to the Saudi lawsuit.

Though she declined to describe the records, Jodi Flowers, a lawyer for Motley Rice, said she was pushing to have them placed in the court file.

“We wouldn’t be fighting this hard, and we wouldn’t have turned the material over to the judge, if we didn’t think it was really important to the case,” she said.

Top 10 Corrupt Nations

Top 10 Corrupt NationsCorruption in nearly half the world’s nations is not getting much better and, indeed, in many countries is intensifying–affecting virtually every aspect of life among peoples on every continent.

While a year ago, some 72 out of 158 nations surveyed by the international watchdog group Transparency International were classified as “corrupt,” now 74 of 163 countries fall into the same category. A few, most notably India, managed to bootstrap themselves (just barely) out of the truly corrupt group, while others, particularly Iran, dug themselves more firmly into that camp.

1. Haiti

The police continue to be a central factor in corruption in Haiti, though there is corruption in virtually every governmental body. Since the police are also the officials closest to every individual on a daily basis, it is their corruption that changes the nature of daily life in Haiti, permeating all society and the way business is done.

2. Myanmar

Corruption is perceived as widespread in this vicious dictatorship run with an iron hand by a strong-willed clique of military leaders, who persist in repression of civil society at every level. Illicit facilitation payments and informal fees are required to access even the most basic government services.

3. Iraq

Huge quantities of funds– especially American military and reconstruction aid funds–swirling through this nation, where many civil structures have largely broken down, is a recipe for corruption at all levels.

4. Guinea

Guinea has been in a political crisis state for at least three years. Though the current, corrupt president has been in power for 20 years, strong pressure has been building from the public for a change of regime.

5. Sudan

The key event was the switch from a Canadian company that dominated oil drilling in Sudan, the No. 3 oil producer in Africa, to a Chinese company that took over the contract after the Canadians found corruption and an outrageous human rights record was too rife to be able to continue functioning. China is now responsible for 90% of all oil production in Sudan, which also controls oil flow down a large pipeline through southern Sudan to the sea.

6. Democratic Republic Congo/Kinshasa

Copper in Katanga, and in the rest of the country, gold, uranium and especially coltan, a rare mineral that’s in every cell phone chip, still drive the corruption that remains rampant in this African nation. A presidential election did little to stop the corruption or the resulting violence that erupted again last month in downtown Kinshasha, the nation’s capital. The president is the principal recipient of routine payments by the mining companies who apparently are prepared to play the very lucrative payoff game that remains as endemic now as it was back during the regime of one of Africa’s historically most corrupt leaders, Mobutu Sese-Seko.

7. Chad

Chad has dropped from No. 1 to No. 7 this year as international aid agencies, particularly the World Bank, have sought to come to grips with one of the world’s most piggish uses of philanthropic funds. Proceeds of a Chad- Cameroon oil pipeline, funded in part by the World Bank and operated by an Exxon Mobil-led consortium, were supposed to have been used to help feed the desperately poor people of both nations. Instead, at least $30 million was diverted to buy arms to keep the government of President Idriss Deby in power.

8. Bangladesh

There continues to be a general lack of engagement between the government and civil society as repression, corruption throughout government ranks and especially in the judiciary and political circles persists, often spilling over into the private sector.

9. Uzbekistan

The most corrupt of the five former Soviet Republics on our list, Uzbekistan is sinking ever deeper into corruption and unrest–in constant turmoil and strife under what the U.S. State Department describes as the authoritarian rule of President Islam Karimov, a communist apparatchik holdover of the old regime, which, while violently suppressing opposition, encourages corruption that permeates society, including the executive branch.

10. Equatorial Guinea

One of the world’s smallest oil powers, it is also among the most corrupt. Still, possibly under pressure from the major oil companies that operate there, particularly Exxon Mobil, things have improved a trifle, though the corrupt President Teodoro Obiang Nguema remains in power. Now, though, it’s becoming possible to operate a business on a reasonable basis, provided one accepts that 30% of all funds, including oil profits go straight into the pocket of Nguema. Still, the system of corruption now is more rational and orderly than the previous system that amounted to near-total anarchy.

Hammering Your Temper

Hammering Your TemperAdapted from the NAILS IN THE FENCE . There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.'

Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND, even if it means sending it back to the person who sent it to you! If it comes back to you, you will then know you have a circle of friends.

YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONORED!

Now send this to every friend you have!! And to your family (they need to know that you love them too).

Please forgive me if I have ever left a 'hole' in your fence.

Transformers 2 Reviews

The reviews are out for the sequel of 2007 toy-movie Transformers. Transformers 2 would not be a flop but it would not be as great as the first movie.

Below is a list of what the critics said about Transformers 2. For the most part it seems like everyone walked away with the same opinion of the film.

1. CNN - 'Transformers' lands with giant thud - "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- the most terrible revenge since Montezuma's -- is louder, longer and lamer than the 2007 hit it succeeds.

2. HuffPost - Something that cost so much could make so little sense. It's hard to exaggerate what a depressing mess of a film this misbegotten monstrosity is.

3. HecklerSpray - Revenge Of The Fallen is bigger, badder and stupider in every way than its predecessor. The film’s target audience is 15-year-old boys, and they get well and truly served with the explosive combo of sunset battles, cool cars, ultraviolence and Megan Fox’s super-tight jeans.

4. IGN - Epic, spectacular but unfortunately far, far too long. Sequel proves that sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.

5. comicbookmovie.com - Transformers 2 is bigger, longer, louder!..but not better.

6. worstpreviews.com - An excuse to send robots smashing into each other. Oversexed, underwritten, gun-happy, baffling, and boring as a test pattern, Revenge of the Fallen is little more than an excuse to send robots smashing into each other for an excruciating two-and-a-half hours.

Family Problems

Two men, one American and an Indian were sitting in a bar drinking shot after shot.

The Indian man said to the American, "You know my parents are forcing me to get married to this so called homely girl from a village whom I haven't even met once." We call this arranged marriage.

I don't want to marry a woman whom I don't love... I told them that openly and now have a hell lot of family problems."

The American said, Talking about love marriages... I'll tell you my story.

I married a widow whom I deeply loved and dated for 3 years. "After a couple of years, my father fell in love with my step-daughter and so my father became my son-in-law and I became my father's father-in-law.

Legally now my daughter is my mother and my wife my grandmother.

More problems occurred when I had a son. My son is my father's brother and so he is my uncle. Situations turned worse when my father had a son. Now my father's son i.e. my brother is my grandson.

Ultimately, I have become my own grand father and I am my own grandson..

And you say you have family problems..

Gimme a break !!

How Search Engine Finds Your Blog

How Search Engine Finds Your BlogSo what exactly is a search engine looking for when it scans blogs and web sites? Well, a number of things. But mainly search engines are trying to replicate the way people search. Search engines want to produce the information you are looking for. But we all know that’s easier said than done.

We all use search engines to look for websites, your behavior with the search engine result is the same behavior of other 90% of internet users. What does that means? When you search for a term; how many pages of the search results do you brows? What are the titles that attract you to click on? What do you see in the search results?

Understand your behavior to better understand what you need to do to get better results from the search engines.

Put simply, here’s what a search engine looks for when it scans the Web for site and blog contents. This list will help your content grow stronger search engine optimization (SEO) and can bring in more visitors to your blog.

1) Page Titles: Make them brief and to the point. And make sure they are unique.

2) Headlines: These serve as a narrative that can draw search engines. Use them to your advantage. Make them pop and have plenty of staying power.

3) Meta tags: Are pretty much old hat. But Meta descriptions are important. Use Meta descriptions to further explain what the page is about.

4) Clarity: Like people, search engines have a hard time deciphering linguistic virtuosity. Keep it simple and direct.

5) Multimedia: Images should be named for what they are, not what you wish they were. You can use multiple images in your posts, but the ones that appear in the top get strong exposure and are often found by search engines.

How Water Gets Polluted

How Water Gets PollutedIf you thought throwing your sandwich wrapper in a stream while camping was most common form of water pollution, think again: from agricultural runoff to waste treatment, pollution affects more and more of the Earth’s water supply every minute.

Check out five of the most invasive and damaging types of pollution (but please: still throw that sandwich wrapper in the trashcan). Read also Top 10 World's Most Polluted Places

Sewage and Fertilizer - Untreated ewage doesn’t present as big of a problem as some other pollutants, but it does have its dangers: in small quantities, it breaks down naturally and doesn’t harm water at all, but in large quantities it depletes the amount of oxygen in the water. When too much oxygen is erased, the polluted area can’t support sea life. These areas are known as “dead zones,” and there are more than 400 of them around the world, causing major damage to the health of the oceans.

Acid Rain - Though the acid rain-awareness campaign has made this less of an issue than it was in the past, it’s still a major pollution problem. A quick refresher on the how: the burning of fossil fuels releases compounds that interact with the H20 in the air, creating a modified version of the raindrop—one that includes nitric and sulfuric acid, which pollutes the water and ground that’s affected by the rain. Too much of those acids inhibits plant growth, and soil damage on a major scale would take eons to repair—which makes soil a “non-renewable resource,” according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Non-point Sources - All water pollution happens in one of two ways: via non-point or point systems. Non-point pollution comes from indirect sources, like agricultural runoff, mining waste, paved roads, and industrial activity. It’s impossible to trace the original polluter in these cases, but toxic chemicals and compounds make their way into the water system just the same—through rainwater drainage, melting snow, and running rivers.

The Oil Industry - Everything about the oil industry—drilling, moving, laying pipeline, shipping—opens up the possibility for water pollution. From rigs that are compromised by foul weather (like those on the Gulf Coast) to barges that have accidental spills, the damage is never intentional, but it’s still one of the major dangers facing clean water and marine life.

Heat - This may not seem like such a bad thing—after all, hot water and cold water even out eventually, right? Right—but until then, discharging hot water while cooling power plants means changing the temperature of the water source, which can encourage the species density to change and alter the biology of the water. Thermal pollution, then, can be just as damaging as bacterial or sediment pollution.

Nation of rapist - South Africa

Nation of rapisThe recent survey conducted by South Africa's Medical Research Council, reveals a deeply rooted culture of violence against women, in which men rape in order to feel powerful, and do so with impunity, believing that their superiority entitles them to vent their frustrations on women and children. The men most likely to rape, the researchers found, were not the poorest, but those who had attained some level of education and income. Hard to believe it, but there are a lot of educated rapists in South Africa. This horrifying survey result is not good for South Africa who will be hosting the 2010 World Cup soccer finals.

South Africa has one of the highest incidents of reported rape in the world. The most recent statistics show that 36,190 cases of rape were reported to the police between April and December 2007, though experts believe that number only accounts for one out of nine cases. But the number of rape cases that make it to court — let alone result in a conviction — are far fewer.

Gender advocates say that the 2006 rape trial of prominent politician Jacob Zuma was incredibly damaging to their cause. Zuma, who was elected President this year, was tried and acquitted of raping an HIV-positive family friend. He told the court that the woman had dressed provocatively, in a traditional wrap-around kanga, and that it was against Zulu culture for a man to leave a sexually aroused woman unsatisfied. Jacob Zuma is now the South African president. A Zulu traditionalist, he has six wives, and at least 17 children by nine women, prompting speculation over which wife will become First Lady if he is elected.

Make money with iPhone 3GS

Make money with iPhone 3GSThe recent launching of Apple's iPhone 3GS could usher in an innovative and lucrative new era for those who create applications for the popular device, developers and industry observers say. In plain words, iPhone 3GS provide an avenue to make money create application compatible with the unit. However, the phone's upgraded hardware, combined with a new operating system, will allow developers to design apps that wouldn't have worked on previous models of the iPhone. Read this post on how to make money with iPhone 3G, Series #1.

The new iPhone contains a processor that Apple claims is more than twice as fast as its 3G model, plus a video camera, voice control, longer battery life and a built-in compass. It comes with an upgraded operating system -- which Apple released Wednesday for download onto older iPhones -- with 100 new functions, including the ability to copy and paste text. The previous model of iPhone boasted more than 50,000 applications readily available from Apple store.

But the phone's biggest game-changer, observers say, may be new software that allows iPhone users to make purchases within applications.

App developers love this new function. Until now, they earned money only when people bought applications through Apple's App Store, or from selling ads within the apps themselves. But now, for example, a game developer could charge users a few extra dollars to access higher levels of a video game. Other apps could allow users to locate the nearest movie theater, and then buy tickets. Thus, there is now a lot of possibility in making money from the iPhone 3G application.

E. coli found in Nestle Toll House cookie dough

E. coli found in Nestle Toll House cookie doughToll House cookie dough from Nestle is found to be laced with traces of E. coli. Nestle USA on Friday voluntarily recalled dozens of Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products after a number of illnesses were reported by those who ate the dough raw. I don't understand why those people have to eat the raw dough.

The recall covers all varieties of prepackaged, refrigerated cookie dough but does not include Toll House chocolate chips or baking bars, or Dreyer's and Edy's ice cream products with Nestle Toll House cookie dough ingredients.

The company said the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control are investigating reported E. coli illnesses that might be related to the ingestion of the raw cookie dough.

The FDA said there have been 66 reports of illness across 28 states since March. About 25 people have been hospitalized, but no one has died.

The FDA advised consumers to throw away any prepackaged, refrigerated Nestle Toll House cookie dough products. Retailers, restauranteurs and employees at other food-service operations should also not sell or serve any of the products.

Nestle spokeswoman Roz O'Hearn said "this has been a very quickly moving situation." She says the company took action less than 24 hours after hearing of the problem.

O'Hearn said the company will cooperate fully with the FDA's investigation.

The recall includes refrigerated cookie bar dough, cookie dough tub, cookie dough tubes, limited edition cookie dough items, seasonal cookie dough and Ultimates cookie bar dough. It does not affect any other Toll House products.

About Escherichia coli (or E. coli)

Escherichia coli (commonly E. coli; pronounced /ˌɛʃɪˈrɪkiə ˈkoʊlaɪ/, /iː ~/, and named for its discoverer), is a Gram negative bacterium that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms (endotherms). Most E. coli strains are harmless, but some, such as serotype O157:H7, can cause serious food poisoning in humans, and are occasionally responsible for costly product recalls. The harmless strains are part of the normal flora of the gut, and can benefit their hosts by producing vitamin K2, or by preventing the establishment of pathogenic bacteria within the intestine.

E. coli are not always confined to the intestine, and their ability to survive for brief periods outside the body makes them an ideal indicator organism to test environmental samples for fecal contamination. The bacteria can also be grown easily and its genetics are comparatively simple and easily-manipulated or duplicated through a process of metagenics, making it one of the best-studied prokaryotic model organisms, and an important species in biotechnology and microbiology.

E. coli was discovered by German pediatrician and bacteriologist Theodor Escherich in 1885, and is now classified as part of the Enterobacteriaceae family of gamma-proteobacteria.

Google Page Speed To Test Web Page Loading

Google Page SpeedHere’s some interesting technological news for all you webmasters, bloggers and web developers out there. Google has just introduced a tool they call Page Speed that tests a web page based on a set of rules and best practices for fast-loading websites. It then gives you advice on what you can improve to make your website faster. It works as an add-on to Firefox and needs the Firebug extension to work.

This looks to be Google’s own version of Yahoo’s YSlow tool. YSlow is also an add-on to Firefox (with Firebug) that tests web pages based on a set of criteria for what makes a fast-loading website and gives advice accordingly.

Of course, having multiple options is never a bad thing. And by testing their websites with both Yahoo’s Yslow and Google’s Page Speed, perhaps web developers and webmasters may gain some additional perspectives.

Ironically, the guy who created the first version of YSlow at Yahoo, Steve Souders, now works at Google. We don’t know if he’s been involved in this project but he’s got a wealth of experience in website speed optimization, so hopefully they picked his brain a bit when designing Page Speed.

What is Page Speed?

Page Speed is an open-source Firefox/Firebug Add-on. Webmasters and web developers can use Page Speed to evaluate the performance of their web pages and to get suggestions on how to improve them.

How does Page Speed work?

Page Speed performs several tests on a site's web server configuration and front-end code. These tests are based on a set of best practices known to enhance web page performance. Webmasters who run Page Speed on their pages get a set of scores for each page, as well as helpful suggestions on how to improve its performance.

Why should you use Page Speed?

By using Page Speed, Google claimed that you can:

* Make your site faster.
* Keep Internet users engaged with your site.
* Reduce your bandwidth and hosting costs.
* Improve the web!

Web Performance Best Practices according to Google

When you profile a web page with Google Page Speed, it evaluates the page's conformance to a number of different rules. These rules are general front-end best practices you can apply at any stage of web development. We provide documentation of each of the rules here, so whether or not you run the Google Page Speed tool — maybe you're just developing a brand new site and aren't ready to test it — you can refer to these pages at any time. We give you specific tips and suggestions for how you can best implement the rules and incorporate them into your development process.

About the performance best practices using Page Speed

Page Speed evaluates performance from the client point of view, typically measured as the page load time. This is the lapsed time between the moment a user requests a new page and the moment the page is fully rendered by the browser. The best practices cover many of the steps involved in page load time, including resolving DNS names, setting up TCP connections, transmitting HTTP requests, downloading resources, fetching resources from cache, parsing and executing scripts, and rendering objects on the page. Essentially Page Speed evaluates how well your pages either eliminate these steps altogether, parallelize them, and shorten the time they take to complete. The best practices are grouped into five categories that cover different aspects of page load optimization:

* Optimizing caching — keeping your application's data and logic off the network altogether
* Minimizing round-trip times — reducing the number of serial request-response cycles
* Minimizing request size — reducing upload size
* Minimizing payload size — reducing the size of responses, downloads, and cached pages
* Optimizing browser rendering — improving the browser's layout of a page

Canadian Police is watching your Internet activities

Canadian PoliceIf you lived in Canadian, you will be watched by the Police offline and online. The Canadian Police will be given new powers to eavesdrop on Internet-based communications as part of a contentious government bill, to be announced today, which Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan has said is needed to modernize surveillance laws crafted during "the era of the rotary phone." Sound like a warrantless tracking of Canadians' Internet use.

The proposed legislation would force Internet service providers to allow law enforcement to tap into their systems to obtain data about users and their digital conversations.

Police have lobbied for a new law for almost 10 years, saying that they need to access "Internet safe havens" for gangsters, sexual predators and terrorists.

Privacy advocates and civil libertarians, however, have vocally opposed the prospect of giving police "lawful access" to the digital conversations of Canadians by being able to access such things as their text messages, emails, Web surfing habits and Internet phone lines.

"It is an issue that has proven to be very, very controversial," said Michael Geist, a law professor at University of Ottawa and public commentator on Internet legal issues.

"The consistent criticism and concern that has been expressed is that there has to be some evidence that there is a real problem here and in the past we haven't seen that.

"Why is the status quo not good enough? What investigations have been impeded?"

Federal Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddard recently warned that forcing ISPs to surrender information "is a serious step forward toward mass surveillance" that violates the rights of Canadians.

Van Loan's bill has been posted on a notice paper of pending government legislation and it is expected to be tabled in the House of Commons before MPs break tomorrow for their summer recess. He has scheduled a news conference for today with Justice Minister Rob Nicholson.

Earlier this year, Van Loan stated his intentions to pursue legislation, which had been promised for years but relegated to a back burner by his predecessor, Stockwell Day.

When he was public safety minister, Day also promised that any federal initiative would require police to obtain a warrant to access personal information of users.

Pecknold said it is "an ongoing frequent occurrence" that police want to act to stop a crime, but they are blocked at the technological door at a time when criminals increasingly use online communications.

"Terrorist groups, pornographers and pedophile networks, illegal traffickers in weapons, drugs and human beings, money launderers and cyber criminals, Internet and telemarketing fraudsters all use technology to develop activities, perpetrate crimes and avoid detection," the police chiefs said in a November 2008 position paper supporting a new law.

Responses from the Canadian public:

They are just trying to cover their asses because the cops have been doing this for years, now they are asking for permission legally

Warrentless wire tapping, scaring us into giving up our basic rights, jailing us with no charges, just because they don't like the color of our skin or the imaginary person we pray to

This is an obscene law crafted only to appease the politicy er sorry police. (same thing) The job of govt. is to protect us from this type of invasion NOT sanction it! The job they are actually doing with this is strengthening the un-warranted power and reach of the police who now have become only a political enforcement arm.
