Conficker Worm Infection - What to do

The tenacious Conficker worm (with different aliases such as Conficker.b, W32.Downadup, Conflicker, and the latest Conficker.C) is set to activate itself on April 01, 2009. It might be an April Fools pranks but the threat it posed, seem to make computer users edgy. What happens come midnight is a mystery: Will it turn the millions of infected computers into spam-sending zombie robots? Or will it start capturing everything you type -- passwords, credit card numbers, etc. -- and send that information back to its masters?

UPDATES
* Apr 13, 2009 - Check out the Conficker Eye Chart, which can tell you if you’re computer is already infected.

Conficker's a nasty little worm that takes serious efforts to bypass your security defenses, but you aren't without some tools in your arsenal to protect yourself.

Instructions and guide on How to Remove Conficker Worm | W32.Downadup

As a final safety note, all users -- whether they're worried about an infection or know for sure they're clean -- are also wise to make a full data backup today.

What won't work? Turning your PC off tonight and back on on April 2 will not protect you from the worm. Temporarily disconnecting your computer from the web won't help if the malware is already on your machine -- it will simply activate once you connect again. Changing the date on your PC will likely have no helpful effect, either. And yes, Macs are immune this time out. Follow the above instructions to detect and remove the worm.

How to get listed in search engines faster

If you have been blogging for a while but still not getting visitors, your blog is probably outdated far as the search engines are concerned. And this is the reason why you should also be pinging. New bloggers may not be aware of the term ping and it's importance in blogging. Seasoned bloggers are pinging their blogs to let the search engines know that his or blog has been posted with new article, and using this as an efficient marketing tool. To make your blogging successful, it is necessary to be familiar with pinging as it is an important part of promoting your blog.

The process of "blog and ping" or "tag and ping" is used to bring internet traffic to a website or blogs. The process is fairly simple and effective with several valuable benefits and very few disadvantages.

Ping Defined

In simple terms, a ping is a way to electronically verify the presence of a particular location on the internet and getting a response from that location. A ping is a basic program that is built into every operating system and it is one of the most commonly used tools in the system or network administrator's toolkit. It checks the validity of an internet address existence and request response from that address. Ping is an acronym term given for Packet Inter-Network Groper.

Pinging Blogs

Ping is a XML-RPC based push mechanism. It notifies search engines and other servers that your blog is ready with updates. Once servers get notified by ping services, they visit your blog, crawl your contents and update their database. In order to get a good stand, you need to use ping service every time you update your blog. Blogs in Wordpress and Nucleus platforms use built-in pinging service and can notify servers automatically once you update your blog. But with Blogger/Blogspot blogs, you have to do it manually.

To receive the desired publicity to your blog, you need to send a ping to a large number of servers. The easiest way to accomplish that task is to use a pinging service that will ping multiple ping servers. This automatic ping service is available in many blogging platforms that can save you from having to go through the tedious and time consuming process of individually pinging many different servers.

Advantages of multiple pinging services

The advantages in notifying multiple pinging services is very obvious. It will result in a larger number of servers receiving the ping and receiving notification that there is new content on the blog.

As search engines are constantly roaming through internet sites and pages, their visits to the servers that have been pinged by the pinging services will alert them to the new content that they have not yet visited. That's the first step toward the goal of bringing the search engines to a new blog post, finding it to be worthwhile and new, and indexing the page so that the internet community can find it in the future. The more servers that are pinged when the new content is posted, the more likely the search engines can find the new page and begin their evaluation process.

Aside from the auto-ping services or plugins offered by some blog publishing platforms, you can also opt for extra pinging services available all over the internet. I normally use Ping-o-matic, BlogBuzzer, TotalPing OR King Ping for this blog, but I just use one of them at a time.

Disadvantages of pinging services

The only disadvantage in using multiple pinging services is the duplicate pings that they can produce. This can sometimes result in a blog being considered spam by some servers. It is up to you to make the call on how many pinging services should be used, as there is no single formula in finding out how many pings it should take to be considered spam by any particular server.

Responsible usage of "blog and ping" is just one of many tools out there to increase traffic. Nevertheless, it should not be overlooked as a way of attracting more visitors to your websites or blog.

How to Rank #1 in Google Search Page?

Bloggers with a few months experience would probably know how to get ranked in Top 10 of Google search page (or the First Page) for a particular keyword or phrase. BUT is ranking somewhere in the First Page good enough? Is ranking on the number two spot good enough? Apparently not. The URL located at the peak i.e the #1 rank in Google search page will get a big (I mean very big) share of visitor clicks (or traffic juice). It is like winner take all.

Most bloggers and website owners say that you must be on the first page of search results in Google if you want to get tonnes of clicks, right? Well, getting on the first page is achievable, but only on the first page were not enough. In fact, if you are in a below position, then you may get a small percentage of about 1% of all clicks on the search for a keyword.

Trusted studies done by Cornell University using eyes tracking technologies to find the percentage of the number of users who will be doing every 10 clicks on search results that appear on the first page of Google for certain topics. The result, is surprisingly as shown in the illustration below:

How to Rank #1 in Google Search Page?

Let’s use a number to be able to understand this better. Although you have tried to be on the first Google Search Result for a keyword searched per day until the 2000 search, you may only get 29 clicks per day if you are in the 9th position. Even in the position 2, you will only get 269 clicks. Not so bad, but very far differences when compared with 1127 clicks received by the first position.

Ten Tips to the Top of Google

By Jill Whalen

Having a Web site that gets found in Google isn't hard to do, but it can be difficult to know where to begin. Here are ten tips to get you started.

1. Start out slowly. If possible, begin with a new site that has never been submitted to the search engines or directories. Choose an appropriate domain name, and start out by optimizing just the home page.

2. Learn basic HTML. Many search engine optimization techniques involve editing the behind the scenes HTML code. Your high rankings can depend on knowing which codes are necessary, and which aren't.

3. Choose keywords wisely. The keywords you think might be perfect for your site may not be what people are actually searching for. To find the optimal keywords for your site, use tools such as WordTracker. Choose two or three highly targeted phrases for each page of your site. Never shoot for general keywords such as "travel" or "vacation."

4. Write at least 200 - 250 words of visible text copy based on your chosen keywords. This is a crucial component to high rankings and a successful Web site. The search engines need to "read" keyword rich copy on your pages so they can successfully classify your site. Use each keyword phrase numerous times within your copy for best results.

5. Create a killer Title tag. HTML title tags are critical because they're given a lot of weight with all of the search engines. You must put your keywords into this tag and not waste space with extra words. Do not use the Title tag to display your company name or to say "Home Page." Think of it more as a "Title Keyword Tag" and create it accordingly. Add your company name to the end of this tag, if you must use it.

6. Create Meaty Meta tags. Meta tags can be valuable, but they are not a magic bullet. Create a Meta Description tag that uses your keywords and also describes your site. The information in this tag often appears under your Title in the search engine results pages.

The Meta Keyword tag isn't quite as important as the Meta Description tag. Contrary to popular belief, what you place in the keyword tag will have very little bearing on what keywords your site is actually found under, and it's not given any consideration whatsoever by Google. Use this tag, but do not obsess over.

7. Use extra "goodies" to boost rankings. Things like headlines, image alt tags, header tags, etc., links from other pages, keywords in file names, and keywords in hyperlinks can cumulatively boost search engine rankings. Use any or all of these where they make sense for your site.

8. Be careful when submitting to directories such as Yahoo and the Open Directory Project (DMOZ). Having directory listings are a key component to getting your site spidered and listed by Google. Making mistakes in the submission process could cost you dearly as directory listings are difficult to change later in the game. Therefore, it's important to read Yahoo's How to Suggest Your Site and How to add a site to the Open Directory before submitting.

9. Don't expect quick results. Getting high rankings takes time; there's no getting around that fact. Once your site is added to a search engine or directory, its ranking may start out low and then slowly work its way up the ladder. Some search engines measure "click-through popularity," i.e., the more people that click on a particular site, the higher its ranking will go. Be patient and give your site time to mature.

10. Don't constantly "tweak" your site for better results. It's best not to make changes to your optimization for at least three-to-six months after submission. It often takes the engines at least that long to add your optimized pages to their databases. Submit it, and then forget about it for a while!

If you've followed these tips and still can't find your site in the engines, the first place to "tweak" would be your page copy. If you added less than 250 words of visible text on your pages, this is probably your culprit. Also, double check your keyword density, and make sure that you only targeted two or three phrases per page. Eventually, you'll see the fruits of your labor with many top ten rankings in Google and the rest of the search engines!

Why Rank #1 in Google (click heatmap proved it)

By Bryan Eisenberg

Google has become the 8000 pound search Gorilla. During their meteoric growth there has been a trend that people’s expectations have gotten higher and their attention span shorter. There was a time when people would click though a page, two or even three of search results, but that is not so common any more. Today, if you don’t rank in the top 3, searchers will barely notice your listing.

Our good friends at Think Eyetracking recently completed an eyetracking study and compared it with an eyetracking study they did in 2005 for people looking at a Google search results page.

In this is a case a picture is worth a thousand words:

How to Rank #1 in Google Search Page?
As seen in the heatmap above, fixations are studded around the top 5 results and the majority of clicks are upon the top 3 results (discounting the sponsored link). The sponsored link was actually not well attended to due to the fact that searchers are now familiar with advertiser placement within Google. The 2008 heatmap supports the recent trend observed by Cornell University (Their study found that the top 3 Google results get 79% of all clicks) and by AOL (Findings were that 63% of clicks were concentrated upon the top three search results).

What do you do when you don’t find your results right away? The same as 86% of the respondents who replied that they would modify the search terms or refine the search by category.

America wake up and buck up

America being a global powerhouse with responsibilities ranging from producing emerging technology, the law-enforcer of the world, the champion of democracy, the protector of world peace has becoming too soft to its businessmen and corporate leaders who have run errand. Corporate leaders who do nothing to stop the collapsing US economy and who are responsible for billion-dollars losses.

In United States, not only the errand corporate leaders get government bail-out money amounting to trillion dollars for their losing company, they were enjoying their lifestyle like there is no tomorrow. If this happen in China, that corporate leader would get a free bullet on the head. And get this, when they part company, they still get MILLIONS in retirement package.

The latest example being Rick Wagoner who will leave his post as CEO of bailed-out General Motors with a $20 million retirement package. Under Wagoner's leadership, GM lost tens of billions of dollars, took billions in taxpayer-financed aid, and cut tens of thousands of jobs, including announced plans to cut 47,000 employees by the end of 2009. Wagoner was one of the three auto industry CEOs who inflamed Congressional ire by flying to Washington in private jets to ask for taxpayers to bail out their beleaguered businesses. They returned a month later in hybrid cars.

America wake up and buck up.

Myth about Men-At-Work sign

Women work all the time - Men have to put up signs when they work.
Men-At-Work sign
That is the contrasting attitude between men and women when it come to work.

Anyone want to dispute the superiority issue between the two genders? Most would argued that men and women are equal. It may be so. But as I see it, the approach taken be men and women are mostly different in most time.

How Women Work

If you believe what you see on TV, women are inscrutable, conniving, hysterical and apt to change their minds without reason or warning. Some women's magazines perpetuate these stereotypes by offering advice on how to entrap men or keep them guessing. And some of the basic differences between men and women can seem a little confusing, depending on your point of view.

How Men Work

As hormones go, testosterone doesn't always have the best reputation. It's a key ingredient in most anabolic steroids, which can lead to aggression and infertility.

And some women hold it accountable for just about any stereotypically masculine behavior, from a love of sports to a reluctance to ask for directions.

But without testosterone, there would be no men. Until about the eighth week of gestation, males and females are identical. Then, a surge of testosterone causes male fetuses to develop male sex organs -- without this wave of testosterone, a male's sex organs will never develop.

Mandate on Gender Equality

The ILO's mandate on gender equality is to promote equality between all women and men in the world of work. This mandate is grounded in International Labour Conventions of particular relevance to gender equality - especially the four key equality Conventions. These are the Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention, 1958 (No. 111), Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100), Workers with Family Responsibilities Convention, 1981 (No. 156) and the Maternity Protection Convention, 2000 (No. 183). The mandate is also informed by Resolutions of the International Labour Conference - the highest level policy-making organ of the ILO - in 1975, 1985, 1991 and the June 2004 Resolution on Gender Equality, Pay Equity and Maternity Protection.

Paying For Your Twitter Tweet

Twitter TweetFor Twitter users, be prepared to pay for your tweet. And this has nothing to do with the coming April Fool. It's real. This means, very soon, Twitter will make money every time someone tweet. As a start, Twitter is planning to charge some big organizations on usage of Twitter on a PRO level. Small fry like us (read: individual) will still enjoy Twittering service. But again, don't be surprise if the owners will also charge individuals.

According to Biz Stone (Twitter co-founder), their question to businesses and commercial entities is, how can Twitter help? What can Twitter offer for a fee that will improve the experience? Will it be account verification? Will it be lightweight analytics? Will there be opportunities for introducing customers to businesses on Twitter.

With this latest turn of even, I'm sure someone is aiming to come out with a similar product to Twitter for FREE. Its has always been this way. A growing company started to charge their growing members, and a new start-up appear to capitalize on the run-away users and create another business boom.

SezWho.com winding down

SezWho.com SezWho.com a comment consolidation site is to be decommissioned by March 31, 2009 as their free commenting service has been acquired by JS-Kit. JS-Kit’s acquisition of SezWho is not particularly surprising. There’s definitely a need for enhanced commenting systems, but this space is overdue for consolidation. The problem with having all of these discrete commenting systems is that for the most part, they aren’t compatible with each other. Users’ comment histories and reputations are segmented across a handful of competing services, which sort of defeats the point.

History of SezWho.com

SezWho is a service which encourages user participation and community engagement on social media sites. This is accomplished through a universal profile widget which provides links to a user’s contributions across the web.

SezWho Existing Users

Existing SezWho users must now deactivate their SezWho plugin from their blog and upgrade to JS-Kit blog commenting service. JS-Kit will continue to keep SezWho’s service running for the next 30 days, during which users will be offered a choice of moving over to JS-Kit or choosing an alternative system.

About JS-Kit

JS-Kit makes simple widgets that add interactivity to websites and blogs. Their stable of widgets includes one for commenting, rating, polling and rating comments. They also have a widget called Top Rated that tracks the highest rated objects on your site.

Each of the widgets can be easily installed on your site free of charge with only a few lines of Javascript code. And, each of the widgets can be customized to match your site’s theme.

JS-Kit offers the widgets free (ad-supported) or for a monthly fee users can get the widgets ad-free. Competitors include KickApps, Intense Debate, CoComment and Tangler.

Remove Conficker Worm | W32.Downadup - How to

Conficker WormConficker Worm (also known as Conficker.b, W32.Downadup) is a worm that locks users out of system directories, and blocks your access to security websites and applications, such as Windows Automatic Update Service, Windows Security Center Service, Windows Defender Service (WinDefend), Windows Vista TCP/IP auto-tuning, and more. To further hide its presence in your computer, Conficker Worm deletes any System Restore points you’ve created.

The tenacious Conficker worm which has wriggled its way onto machines worldwide is set to evolve on April Fool's Day, becoming harder to exterminate but not expected to wreak havoc.

UPDATES:
* Mar 31 2009 - Conficker Worm Infection - What to do

History of Conficker / Downadup worm

The Conficker computer worm, also known as Downup, Downandup and Kido first surfaced in 2008 but as of January 17, IBN Live reports that 6.5 million computers have already been infected by this virus. The Register also reports that 3 in 10 windows PC are vulnerable to Conficker attacks.

Overview of Conficker worm

  • A vicious worm, named Conficker, has took down computer system of Ministry of Health of the USA for more than a fortnight. Antivirus providers has already issued warnings about the Conficker worm a.k.a Downandup a.k.a Kido.
  • Conficker infects Windows OS computers via the internet or USB drives. Once it has installed itself in a computer, the Conficker worm connects to a malicious server to ‘fetch’ malicious softwares like trojans and backdoors.
  • As of early January 2009, around 3 million computers have been intruded by the Conficker worm. A security software company has put the current figure to about 9 million.
  • Users of Windows XP and prior to it should be very aware of Conficker as their operating system are very risky to get infected. Microsoft has already issued a patch to be installed at their Windows Update website.
  • There are some sypmtoms to know if your PC is infected by Conficker. For example, Conficker runs a HTTP server by opening a random port so that a copy of it can be downloaded by target systems.

Downadup / Conficker infection symptoms

When the Downadup or Conficker worm is executed in a PC, win 32 Downadup virus disables systems such as the Windows Automatic Update, Windows Security Center, Windows Defender and Windows Error Reporting. The Downadup worm also gathers personal information and installs malware into the infected computer. The Downadup worm also attaches to several windows processes including svchost.exe, explorer.exe and services.exe.

If your computer is infected with this worm, you may not experience any symptoms, or you may experience any of the following symptoms:
  • Account lockout policies are being tripped.
  • Automatic Updates, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), Windows Defender, and Error Reporting Services are disabled.
  • Domain controllers respond slowly to client requests.
  • The network is congested.
  • Various security-related Web sites cannot be accessed.
Conficker Worm wants to remain undetected, as Conficker Worm downloads more malware onto your computer, contacts ISPs to get directions from a hacker, and places your computer in the Conficker Worm botnet.

Simple Success Formula

Successful businessmen, successful entrepreneurs, successful personalities. They are stories we already know, but we crave each little detail and event. How did they do it? What is the formula? How did they pull off the success that we admire and aspire to make our own?

There is no secret code, no chalice of success passed down. Aside from having a relative in your industry of choice or a big bag of money handed to you, success stories are all unique. Even what appears as a head-start, a financial or a family member hook up, is not a guarantee and often acts tragically as a hindrance. There is no formula, no 5 step process, and no tricks. Apparently it takes hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, and tears. Surprise, surprise!

10 Simple Steps To Find Success by Tara Stiles

It takes a great deal of confidence simply to find and be yourself, rather than a collection of things you like about other people. It also takes a willingness to accept the possibility of actually being happy.

We hear all the time: oh, they are afraid of success. We're also afraid to be happy. What would happen if we were actually happy? I don't mean happy like after you've seen a really great movie or finished a really good meal. I mean truly happy, no complaints with life, smiling at strangers for no apparent reason, happy. Are we ready to be happy? People are going to wonder about you and look at you strange if you are happy. Are you ready for that? Accepting that possibility is a huge step toward success.

Here are some tips for success that Tara Stiles have found in her research. Go down the list and if you are really ready to be happy, then go for it. Throw the deferred life plan out the window. Be happy now.

10 tips for success.

1. Find Yourself - It's so hippie dippy but practical. The hippies were on to something good with this one. Stop trying to be someone else. You have useful things to offer. Own it.

2. Work Hard - Don't be lazy. Hard work pays off. OMG I sound like someone's Mom!

3. Be Nice to People - There's no need to be mean, in words or thoughts. Reason 1: Karma, duh. Reason 2: Regression. When mean thoughts occupy your brain and not-so-nice speech pours out of your mouth, you slip a few notches on the psychological development chart.

4. Get Sleep - Your brain and body need sleep to perform at the level you want so give it to them.

5. Eat Healthy - Same thing with sleep. Give your body good food, not junk. DID YOU KNOW: Super foods that the healthiest people eat and Top 100 Foods to improve your productivity

6. Do Yoga - A yoga practice helps you "stay you." Following your breath in meditation and moving with your breath in yoga class helps you notice what you are. Which (surprise) feels pretty good, leads to happiness, and allows you to succeed at being you.

7. Be Conscious - Practice paying attention to what goes on from the little things to the big stuff. This will streamline your actions into effectiveness.

8. Smile - Smiling is an action of happiness, fake it until you make it and pass the smiles along to friends, co-workers, and strangers. People will wonder what is wrong with you. It's fun to keep them guessing.

9. Don't Worry What Anyone Thinks - Your dream is your own. If you waste your time worrying what everyone thinks you will be busy worrying instead of being successful. However, don't forget #3.

10. Drink Water - Water keeps your system clean and a clean system operates better. Besides, all those extra trips to the bathroom provides a few minutes of opportunity for fantastic ideas to pop into your brain. DID YOU KNOW: 1 Billion People Lack Access To Clean Water

18. Put your pictures on microstock sites
Hey, everyone else is doing it — and some people are making six-figure sums doing it! Recommended reading: How to make money online with Microstock photography

19. Put your pictures in competitions

The ‘net is stuffed with photo contests these days. Some of them pay cash prizes, others pay with a valuable reputation boost. Be a winner!

If there’s a logo in your picture, you’ve got just one possible buyer. So ask them to buy it.

22. Put it on a t-shirt
Yes, we know it’s old-fashioned but it works! People do buy t-shirt with interesting photo on it.

23. Turn your photos into art works
You don’t need a gallery to create art works; you just need a canvas printer. There are plenty of those around so put your picture on a stretcher and sell it as art. In fact, Zazzle affiliate program allow you create custom product with your photos. Zazzle will do the printing and delivery.

24. Turn your art into sketches
Photoshop lets you turn your images into sketches. So if you can’t draw, pack your camera, a laptop and a portable printer and head to where the tourists are. While the sketchers sketch, you can shoot and print.

Property developers always create at least one apartment that looks lived in to show prospective buyers. Why shouldn’t the developers put your pictures on the wall?

No, you’re not back at school… but plenty of kids are still there and every year they have to cover their school books — usually in horrible colored paper. Take trendy pictures, print them on thin paper and sell them to kids who want their books to look cool.

33. Stretch your pictures to 42 inches
The price of flat-screen TVs has fallen faster than an anvil in a road-runner cartoon. These days, almost everyone has one on their wall and most of them are dark most of the time. But there’s no reason they should be. Some of them can take uploaded pictures. Make a disk and make them yours.

34. Cover CDs
People are still burning CDs… and still storing in them in boring plastic covers. Put pictures on circles and offer them to stores that sell blanks.

35. Cover flash cards
Of course, more people these days are using flash memory cards to hold their information. They may be small but they’re big enough to hold a photo with sticker. Especially if you print it small enough.

36. Create collectors’ packs
Shoot a series of themed images such as birds of California or hairstyles of the rich and famous. Print them on cards and sell them in niche outlets in restricted doses. It worked for baseball players.

37. Tell stories with your pictures
You don’t have to draw to create graphic novels. Call some pals, create some poses and print them as story books.

38. Turn your pictures into wallpapers

Desktop wallpapers are still big business. Or at least, big enough to buy your photos. So sell them and appear on computers across the nation.

39. Help campaigning groups
Local pressure groups need images for their campaigns and they’re the sort that aren’t easy to find — beautiful pictures of the local woods, for example, or the headquarters of a property developer. Snap and sell.

40. Become a local photojournalist
It’s not just pressure groups and student papers that are willing to take freelanced images. Local newspapers often will too, especially the free ones. Call their photo editors and make your pitch.

41. Change clothes
Not yours, the clothes in your pictures. Shoot a series of people standing in the same pose, shoot clothes to match, then team up with a programmer to let people play around with them. Then sell the game to a site about fashion as sticky content.

42. … and expressions.
There’s a good reason Mr. Potato Head is still around. He’s fun. So create an electronic version by shooting portraits then ask your friendly programmer to let players change noses. You get to share the game profits.

43. Sit on your best work
If you can put a picture on a t-shirt, you can also put it on a cushion cover. So do it.

44. Let buyers eat your pictures
IcingImages.com lets photographers print images on sheets of edible paper and stick them on cakes. Could be a tasty deal for wedding photographers.

45. Market to Flickr book marketers
Book marketers are using Flickr to drum up publicity. They need good images. You need sales. It’s a match made in a kitchen.

46. Sell to eBay auctioneers
Many of the items sold on eBay appear time and time again, often with poor images. So shoot commonly sold products and sell the pictures to sellers.

47. Illustrate recipes
It’s not just Flickr book marketers who need food pictures. Recipe sites do too. Cook up a storm and photograph the results. Then eat them and offer the pictures to the people who made the meal possible.

48. Advertise on Craigslist
So simple. So overlooked. So why not be the first to advertising outstanding prints on the world’s coolest classifieds?

49. Create coloring books
Take pictures of cats, dogs and bunnies, follow these neat Photoshop steps and put together your very own coloring books.

50. Cover the Earth in your pictures
Well, Google Earth anyway. Some photographers have already put their aerial images on Google Earth but why not turn all of your best travel photos into an overlay… and sell them?

51. Take “after” photos
There are few things more appealing than vintage photographs… except comparing them with how the place looks today. You can’t go back in time but you can find the old places, shoot them today and sell them to vintage photo sellers to complete their set.

52. Sell them as prints
Yes, we know it’s old fashioned but there’s still a market for pictures you can hold and touch. And there are plenty of photo sites that let buyers order online.

53. Sell your photos and hand-made craft
Sell you hand-made crafts such as photo-frame or custom-made photo album with your photos at Etsy.

12 Traits of Successful Bloggers

Here’s a list, presented in no particular order, of some of the traits of successful bloggers that ProBlogger observe:

1. Creative and Playful - Bloggers who find new ways to communicate old truths and that have the ability to surprise their readers with fresh perspectives and means of communication often find themselves on a fast track to a wide readership.

2. Innovative - Innovative bloggers are those that are able to extend and explore their topic in ways that others are not. They are thought leaders and forge into new ground not only in the way that they present in what they say. “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” - Steve Jobs

3. Connectors - Most successful bloggers that I’ve interacted with have an insatiable desire to connect with as many people as they can.

4. Community Enablers - Successful bloggers don’t always actively participate in or lead the community aspect of their blogs.

5. Information Mavens - Successful bloggers are often quite addicted to the gathering of information.

6. Communicators - Successful bloggers have a knack of knowing connecting with readers that goes beyond the way they use words.

7. Interest - Bloggers know how to be interesting - but being interesting starts with being interested.

8. Entrepreneurs - Successful bloggers are always on the look out for opportunities to go to the next level.

9. Originality - Successful bloggers develop a distinct voice, use media in different ways and develop their own unique spin on life that sets them apart from the rest.

10. Perseverance - How successful bloggers persevere - “If at first you don’t succeed, get a bigger hammer.” - Alan Lewis

11. Focus - Successful bloggers don’t become distracted from their core task of producing useful and engaging content for readers.

12. Curiosity - Successful bloggers do not content to sit comfortably but are always exploring, pushing boundaries and experimenting.

-------------------------------------

9 Little Known Traits of Successful Bloggers

According to CopyBlogger, some of the best and most popular blogs have traits that might surprise you. Here’s how being negative, angry and stupid (in the right ways) can create breakthrough success on your blog.

1. Don’t over-explain - In your day-to-day content, leave room for other answers and other points of view in your community comments.

2. Don’t know everything - Write what you know with confidence, but also make some time to share your screw-ups, your insecurities, and your downright failures.

3. Get mad once in awhile - Even Gandhi got cheesed off sometimes. Go ahead and get angry sometimes. But if you let yourself get publicly angry occasionally, you’ll show your humanity and your backbone.

4. Don’t be overly consistent - Respect for other ways of doing things, even when they’re not in line with yours, shows your essential confidence.

5. Break unbreakable rules - A smart blogger knows when what she’s trying to communicate doesn’t fit within the rules, and when she should leave those rules behind. Know the rules, then think carefully about whether or not they support what you have to say.

6. Repeat yourself - A blog isn’t a book. Readers don’t start at the beginning and read their way through in 2 or 3 sittings. Knowing how to come up with fresh takes on a well-worn subject is a cornerstone of a great blog. If you have some strong central themes, they’re worth repeating.

7. Be negative - Positive, “do this” posts are great for spurring readers to take action. But we’re wired to be fascinated by problems, mistakes and embarrassing disasters. The occasional “train wreck” post will help your blog break through attention clutter.

8. Get a little stupid - A little pure entertainment goes a long way to building your community. Making the occasional stupid joke (and then tying it to a point or two worth making) gives your blog some fresh air and makes it an enjoyable read instead of homework.

9. Don’t pay too much attention to “how to blog” articles - It’s great to absorb how-to articles that speak to you, and to try new techniques. But at the end of the day, the thing that makes your blog great is you.

-------------------------------------

Top bloggers have some distinct habits which have allowed them to build and maintain a popular blog. How many of these top blogger habits could you develop?

1. They’re super-efficient emailers - Successful bloggers mastered the art of using email to say exactly what’s needed and nothing more. The skill is one borne out of necessity, because top bloggers can receive hundreds of emails in a 24-hour period.

2. They network with social media power-users - Power-users will submit the top blogger’s posts to social networking sites such as Digg or StumbleUpon and almost guarantee them to become popular. The benefits of these relationships are something average bloggers often overlook.

3. They blog like clock-work - Successful bloggers rarely disappear or go on hiatus. They blog when they’re sick — they even blog when they’re on vacation!

4. They develop multiple income streams - Most top bloggers earn an income for their efforts. Because it tends to be a decent amount, they’ve become good at protecting it by diversifying. Online incomes can be fragile and top bloggers know not to put all their eggs in one basket.

5. They outsource to others - Successful blogger realized that the cost of outsourcing tasks (like comment moderation, posting supplementary articles, managing contest) to others is less than the benefits of freeing up time to concentrate on other things (whether those benefits are financial or otherwise).

6. They know when to relinquish control - Top bloggers have generally realized that there are some great writers out there. They also understand that allowing others to contribute content can free up valuable time.

7. They invest in a high-quality design - Not every top blogger has a slick looking blog, but most do. That’s because they realize the importance of branding and presenting well. A high quality blog design can make your blog worthy of a second look to someone who would have passed it by otherwise.

8. They know how and when to say no - The ability to say no is one that top bloggers develop out of necessity. They know how to treat their time like it’s worth something.

9. They stay humble in spite of their successes - Top bloggers who’ve been successful for a while stay modest because they know their success is and was entirely dependent upon others.

10. They don’t let criticism bring them down - One of the few inevitable laws of blogging is this: as your popularity increases, so does the amount of criticism you receive.

Life is ... the way we see it

The beauty of life is a wonder to behold and a triumph victoriously won each day. The meaning of life constitutes a philosophical question concerning the purpose and significance of human existence. The concept can be expressed through a variety of related questions, such as Why are we here?, What's life all about? and What is the meaning of it all?

It has been the subject of much philosophical, scientific, and theological speculation throughout history and there have been a large number of answers from many different cultural and ideological backgrounds. This suggests the meaning of life is different for each person.

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is bliss, taste it. Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life fight for it.

Breaking The Visitor Numbers Barrier

Breaking The Visitor Numbers BarrierYou will agreed with me that in spite of the current financial turmoil, there hasn't ever been a better time to generate an online income stream! And yet it seems that so many budding Internet marketers are finding it hard to break through VNB - the "Visitor Numbers Barrier."

When I started about 8 months ago, I thought there was some magic elixir or secret technique that would transform my visitor (site traffic) numbers! If only I could find THE ONE successful method!

Proven Insider Tips to Get More Web Visitors Quickly and Easily

By James Gladwin (c) 2009

Well, this article is to let you know that while there may be hundreds of ways to get visitors to your website - I've selected some of the techniques that work best for me. And they can work for you, as well.

Because, if there IS a secret of success, it is this: "Don't rely on ONE way to generate traffic. Become familiar with MANY." Better to have many visitor doors to your website, rather than just one, don't you think?

How to get visitors from Search Engines

I'm still surprised how many serious Internet marketers neglect the basics. And one of the most basic ways to improve your visitor traffic is to be absolutely certain that your website is listed by the search engines. Read further at Submitting Your Site to Major Search Engine and Directory
and Submit Blog URL For Free.

Don't trust the search engine spiders to do your work for you. All the major search engines have detailed and easy-to-follow instructions on site submission, as well as how to create and submit site-maps.

How to get visitors from Facebook

I don't think Facebook needs a great deal of introduction, does it? But you can mine value for Facebook if you look for opportunities to include your website on information that you provide. Read further at Getting More Traffic From Facebook

Then, there is what I call the secret power of blogging: search engines LOVE blogs. The search engine spiders thrive on novelty and change, and if you write or post a new entry to your blog every day - or every other day - the search engines will recognize what is going on and begin to rank your website blog higher than a website that doesn't change its content from month to month. And a high ranking means visitors to your site. Be sure to read What you need to succeed and Blogging regularly.

How to get visitors from posting comments

Don't forget that you can leverage your signature in online communities or discussion groups. If your product is specifically niched, then you know that there are loyal and relevant online communities or discussion groups who want to hear from you. And, your forum signature could be a goldmine once you have thought through the best way of expressing your product's unique feature so that readers find your website irresistible. Monster Guide on How to Increase Blog Traffic for Free

How to get visitors from Pay Per Click (prepare to pay though)

Would you like your web address to be seen by ten million people in ten minutes? Well, it's possible - if you're careful! Because there are three kinds of people: those who love Google Adwords, often known as Pay Per Click, those who hate it - and those who haven't tried it.

Many people just go nuts trying to get their advertisement absolutely perfect. And, if you don't read the small print, you could find that your budget is exhausted quickly. But if you follow the guidelines and budget sensibly you could attract many, many hundreds of paying visitors on a daily basis.

How to get visitors from eBay users

Do you remember those kid's stories where the fairy Godmother tells the child to repeat a word three times for magic to happen? Well, here's that word: "eBay", "eBay", "eBay". There - I've said it. eBay is perhaps THE most underestimated visitor generating resource. Ignore eBay at your peril. There are many, many resources available on the web where you can discover how to sell products on eBay. Read Starting Home Business With eBay

Until recently you could sell digital products (i.e. eBooks, which you can download) but the rules have changed and currently you can only sell physical goods, so your eBook will have
to be on a CD. Personally, I think it's a good move, and opens up many possibilities.

How to get passive visits from E-zine (or article sites)

Don't forget that Ezines and Newsletters are the Grand Daddy and Grand Mommy of all website visitor attraction and list building activity. The thing is this - Ezines and Newsletters work!

How to get visitors from eBook giveaway

Another way to get visitors to your websites is to write an ebook. I'm not embarrassed to say that we're not talking great literature here. We aren't talking about the Pulitzer Prize. We're not even talking more than, maybe, 30 pages, double spaced, and size 12 font. But the fact is this: your eBook will attract visitors to your website single-handedly. Where and how to submit ebook

Later, you can provide your eBook to affiliates so that they send visitors to your site as well! If you're more of an audio expert than a novelist, why not create a podcast? Uh? Well, a podcast is a series of audio files that is distributed over the Internet to iPods and other music players and personal computers. This is the future - and it's fun!

The fact is, everyone loves information but don't always find printed pages the best way to get it. If you can provide the same information that can be played on an iPod or similar media player, or a mobile phone, you're offering a higher value product.

You needn't start from scratch - you can plug your product or service almost immediately by converting your existing articles or eBooks into .mp3 recordings. (.mp3 is the industry standard audio format that is widely accepted for iPods, mobile phones etc.) Remember, you have, on your hard drive, stuff that you have written, or will write, that you can add value to by converting it into an .mp3 recording.

How to get visitors from your blog META tags

Again, it's the basics that are often the key to increasing your visitor traffic, so you might need to shine your light on your meta tags. (To put it briefly, a "meta tag" is used by search engines to allow them to more accurately list your site in their indexes.

To be honest, it works most of the time, but not always! Search engines are always changing their methods, and some use Meta tags a lot, while others don't, but I would not want to neglect this technique. It is a small piece of the mosaic that completes the whole visitor traffic picture.

How to get visitors from testimonials

How many times have you wanted to speak your mind? Well, now you can - and it'll help drive visitors to your website. How? Leave testimonials on other people's sites. This won't take you a second, but your web address will be around for years. Go for it. It is so simple, and so little done.

How to get visitors from email submission

Another technique I used to attract visitors was to write a priority email to customers with an
attention-grabbing subject such as "The Top Ten Myths In Your Industry." Or, provide something like this as a freebie. Make certain that there are clear links to your website, and a compelling reason for the reader to visit.

How to get visitors from YouTube users

Finally, I don't think YouTube needs much introduction! It's simply one of the largest websites devoted to online videos covering every single subject you can think of - and more! So how can you use the power of YouTube to get more visitors? Simply this: upload a video of you talking about your niche.

Many cheap digital cameras have a video option - and you do not need a high-end movie camera. You could get a friend to film you. Or, you could use a built in camera on your PC or Mac, if your model has one. Aim to talk for not much longer than 10 minutes maximum, and sign off with your website address. Again, this is much easier than you would think.

Conclusion

Remember, so many people focus on one traffic building technique, and one only. I hope I've shown you that there are many ways - and you should have fun with all of them. My best to you.

Hypocrisy Of Earth Hour

Hypocrisy Of Earth HourAt 8.30pm on March 28 2009, organizers and sponsors of Earth Hour are asking people across the globe to turn off their lights and join together in creating the vital conversation about the future of our precious planet. Earth Hour is a message of hope and a message of action. Everyone can make a difference. Yeah right.

It is amazing that people are so easily taken in by a mere publicity stunt that fails at the very essence. Turning off our lights for one hour on one designated day of the year to save our planet surely is a PR event at best.

It shames the thousands of devoted people, government bodies, scientists and environmentalists that have for years been working on finding real solutions to address this global concern. Everyone should see past this gimmick by international NGOs and start changing their lifestyles. Surely we can be more proactive and not be fed by an agenda of international bodies.

Why don’t we implement power conservation programmes, ride public transport on certain days in a month, car pool, buy eco-friendly car like IKEA LEKO, etc?

Again, we need the world to take action on Global Warming by changing our attitude toward a more eco-friendly lifestyles. And adopt that attitude today.

Getting More Traffic From Facebook

Getting More Traffic From FacebookIt seems inevitable that, given Facebook's sheer scale (over 150 million registered users and counting), it would at some point start referring a lot of users to some sites. Web users go to Google to figure out where to go next; they go to Facebook to, well, hang out. If Facebook's growth continues the way it has been, perhaps it should be considered Google's greatest threat - maybe not in general search, but in terms of where advertisers are spending their money.

Certainly in the foreseeable future, people will continue using Google to search, and advertisers will continue to spend money advertising with them (probably even more now that they are doing more targeting), but Facebook also targets, and it's not going to be overlooked. It could put a dent into AdWords revenue. Even within search advertising, Facebook should probably not be counted out. Much of the Facebook-driven traffic comes from links that members post via areas like 'Notes' and photos. If Facebook’s influence as a traffic source continues to rise, the next step would be to figure out how to monetize the traffic to those areas with paid search.

So What Can Bloggers And Businesses Get Out of Facebook?

The benefits of using Facebook to drive more traffic to your blog includes:

- Traffic obviously. Social networks have taken over email in terms of popularity. Facebook is the top dog and continues growing rapidly.

- People can "opt in" to be your friend and see your messages. This means your messages will be targeted specifically to people who are interested in your product. It's a great way to get announcements to loyal customers.

- Quick status update. Just like Twitter, it can be used as a great tool for customer service, provided somebody keeps up with it. It's make more senses to announce a quick update then waited for compilation of updates and published it once through newsletter. For time-sensitive product, the publication of newsletter will adamantly delivered late news or info.

- Community interaction. You can interact with the public while increasing brand awareness. With Facebook, you will be able to learn more about your "friend" personal traits and preferences.

- Get earlier speculation. You can watch what people are saying on Facebook about your business and use that information to manage your online reputation.

- Get targeted traffic with Facebook advertising. They provide targeted ads (based on user profiles) and as mentioned above, Facebook gets a third of what Google does (that's a lot) in unique visitors.

- Create Facebook apps. Become a provider of Facebook apps (including one that will let you post right to Twitter from Facebook) make the possibilities near endless. Many apps even have further advertising opportunities.

IKEA Leko Eco-friendly Compact Concept Car

Eco-friendly Compact Concept CarFed up of gas guzzling American's car? There's an automotive rumor buzzing in the Internet and it's all about pairing assemble-it-yourself Swedish giant home furnishings and furniture manufacturer IKEA — with the launch of mystery eco-friendly compact concept car called LEKO (it's a punt shot of Lego car). Can you take it home in a box and assemble it with a set of Allen keys and some wooden pegs?

Little is known about the automobile, but the LEKO does have the support of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF). No word if the card is made of fiberboard, and whether parts will have to be assembled after purchase. Not sure if Insurance companies are willing to cover LEKO car just in case of accident due to improper self-assembly or due to some loosen screws.

When IKEA quotes ‘affordable solutions for better living’, it actually means it for almost every product on their shelves. Be it a home improvement products or an automobile, the company sticks to its motto of rendering affordable yet stylish and functional products. If you are re-reading the last sentence to understand whether the mention of automobile was an error, then hold on as it could be absolutely real.

Head on over to the IKEA concept car website, and you’ll find a French chap purporting to be the designer of the IKEA LEKO, touting its modular design and World Wildlife Fund backing.

We’re not entirely sure how the IKEA LEKO concept car could be especially eco-friendly, unless IKEA has invented a way to power cars with meatballs or maybe self-power with legs (like those from the Flintstone cartoon shows), so we’re going to go ahead and label the IKEA LEKO concept car as a marketing gimmick.

The best eco-friendly vehicle in this world is still a pair of shoes or sneakers.

Problem is, you've got to build Leko yourself…
