Internet witch hunt for Australian arsonist
There is on ongoing Internet witch hunt for Australian arsonist which also refer to online threats, web-hate or threaten violence against accused arsonist Brendan James Sokaluk. It was revealed that thousands of Facebook vigilantes, frustrated at a court order protecting Sokaluk, published his photograph and address on the site and made numerous threats to his life.
The move potentially breached an order suppressing his image and address amid fears of a violent backlash by angry victims.
The fire which swept through Churchill and the surrounding area killed 21 people, however the prosecution told the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Monday that Sokaluk’s arson charge was in relation to the deaths of 11 people.
The Churchill bushfire burnt out more than 30,000 hectares of land. It was one of many fires which devastated Victoria on Saturday, February 7, killing 181 people and razing over 1800 homes. Scores of people remain missing.
Luckily for Sokaluk, he will be trialed under Australian law and not China law. If he were to be trialed in China, I'm sure there will be a bullet reserved for his head. In a recent case, China will execute two brothers involved in the Melamine scandal. The brothers will be facing a firing squad.
