Getting traffic from Flickr commenting
You've probably heard of a traffic strategy of getting traffic to your blog from Flickr commenting. First of all, Flickr commenting is one of the most under utilized technique of bringing traffic to your blog or website. Flickr is one of the most visited websites on the Internet next to YouTube, Facebook, MySpace and now Twitter.
There are three techniques of getting passive traffic from Flickr:
1. Open a Flickr account (you need a Yahoo mail for this) and set up your photo gallery. Upload your photo to your Flickr gallery and embed your blog URL in your photo description.
2. Visit other Flickr member's gallery and comment on their photo. Embed your blog URL in your comment but don't spam, meaning, leave a relevant comment. To be able to post a comment on a Flickr member's gallery, need a Yahoo mail account as well.
3. When you upload your photos, make sure you named your photo with the best matched description. Proper photo tagging is also important. Name your photo as "IMG001.JPG" or "DSC001.JPG" will have no meaning to search engine or Flickr Search.
In summary, leaving our blog URL signature will create a potential traffic juice from your photos or images.
Embed your blog URL (see red underline above) in your photo description to promote your blog.
Now, for a reality check. Practicing the mentioned techniques is a good SEO habit. However, be prepare of not getting an avalanche of traffic from Flickr. Why sudden change in the topic? Well, one thing for sure is that, Flickr members are all fanatic about photo. Meaning, almost all of them are not interested in clicking the link placed in the photo description or photo comment. I have been a Flickr member for a long time now and myself have practiced the three traffic phishing techniques described above, yet traffic from Flickr to my photo blog is very very low. In short, unless you are a famous Flickr photographer, you will not get a lot of traffic from Flickr.
