President Barack Obama's inauguration next week is set to be the most expensive ever, predicted to reach over $150m (£102m). This dwarfs the $42.3m spent on George Bush's inauguration in 2005 and the $33m spent on Bill Clinton's in 1993.

Part of the spending includes emergency funding announced by the White House on Tuesday to help with the soaring costs. Most of this new federal funding will be to deal with the huge influx of people, estimated 1.5 million to 2 million. Read more at Obama's inauguration set to be the most expensive in US history.

A Beckley singer and her band are on their way to performing in Washington, DC for this year's inaugural festivities.

Lady D wrote the song "Go Higher" after being inspired by Barack Obama. In an online contest, the song was chosen Best Obama Inaugural Song, and now "Lady D" and her band will perform it in Washington during the inauguration. Read more at Beckley Singer's Song Wins Obama Inauguration Song Contest.

Inauguration tickets may have vanished from congressmen's offices long ago, but the Presidential Inaugural Committee has announced that supporters have another chance to make it to Washington to see Barack Obama's swearing-in—if they're both lucky and eloquent.

In an E-mail to supporters, the PIC announced that it will send 10 people and one guest each to Washington, put them up in a hotel, and get them into the ceremony. The winners will be picked between now and midnight on January 8.

There's just one hitch: Contestants have to write an essay answering the question "What does this inauguration mean to you?" Winners are to be selected based on the "strength of their essay." Read more at Obama Contest to Offer Prized Tickets to Inauguration.
