Soliciting for backlink affect your blog PageRank?
Does soliciting for backlink affect your blog pagerank? Most experts claimed that too many backlinks or outbound links is not healthy for your blog pagerank. Those experts also claimed that Google awarded better pagerank to blog with fewer outbound links and more inbound links.
Outbound links are links on your blog pointing to other sites whereas inbound links are other sites referring link to your blog or website. By the way, PageRank or PR is Google's proprietary way of determining which site have better authority in certain topics or keywords.
Typically, bloggers fear that giving away to many links (even if those links are not paid for) are better avoided. However, some daring bloggers have proved that myth as just a myth. One of those daring bloggers is Michael Wong who owned BigMoneyList.BlogSpot.com (UPDATES: Jun 05, 2009 - the mentioned blog has been removed by the owner). His site BigMoneyList indeed has literally tonnes of outbound links and believe it or not, his site is ranked with PR 5 ! Google must be crazy.
When it come to soliciting for backlinks, Michael Wong method of doing the backlink solicitation is to link to your blog and then he will write to you (either to your email or made a post at your blog) with the following message:
Hi there, a while ago we had talked about exchanging blogrolls links. His attempted to secure backlinks from strangers probably have a success rate of 50/50. Some feel awkward due to the phobia of getting lower PR if you have too many outbound links. Some are picky and only willing to trade the backlink if both blogs have the same topics.
I was supposed to get back to you after I linked to your blog so you could link back.
I linked to your blog already. When you have some time, please link back ok?
cheers, michael wong at:

Anyway, when you received the message from Michael Wong and check his BigMoneyList blog, you will actually see your link listed under his Blog Rolls. However, I also noticed that if you did not response, Michael will remove your link from his Blog Rolls. There is no free lunch after all, huh.
My hunches say that the Blog Rolls at BigMoneyList is probably not permanent. Maybe after your link has been listed, it will be replaced by newer links after a period of time. Only Michael can ascertain this.
