About Proposition 8
Proposition 8 (or Prop 8) is a statewide ballot proposition in California that is at the heart of a fiercely-contested campaign that has attracted intense interest from around the country and the world. What is at stake in the election is the legal standing in the state of same-sex couples who wish to marry.
In other words, Proposition 8 is simple and straightforward. It contains the same 14 words that were previously approved in 2000 by over 61% of California voters: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

Backing Prop 8 means standing up for Torah, traditional values
Along with the new Jewish year we welcomed a new cycle of Torah readings. For Californians, the first post-Sukkot Sabbath reading was particularly timely, coming as it did a mere 10 days before the 2008 elections. It should have given pause to Jewish opponents of Proposition 8, the measure aimed at amending California’s constitution to enshrine the traditional definition of marriage in state law.
An assortment of arguments can be made in support of Proposition 8—from the deep and abiding connection of marriage with procreation, to the healthful effects for children of having both a mother and a father, to the endangerment of religious freedom lurking in societal sanction of same-sex unions, which will all too easily be used to tar conscientious objectors as unlawful discriminators.

President Bill Clinton Asks California Voters To Vote NO on Proposition 8
Tells Voters Prop 8: "Not What America is About"
SACRAMENTO – In a telephone call to California voters, President Clinton delivers the following message regarding the unfairness of Proposition 8:
"This is Bill Clinton calling to ask you to vote NO on Proposition 8 on Tuesday, November 4th. Proposition 8 would use state law to single out one group of Californians to be treated differently -- discriminating against members of our family, our friends and our co-workers.
"If I know one thing about California, I know that is not what you're about. That is not what America is about. Please vote NO on 8. It's unfair and it's wrong. Thank you."

Google May Hate Prop 8, But That Doesn’t Mean They Won’t Serve Ads Supporting It
Google CEO Eric Schmidt was one of the many Silicon Valley leaders to add his name to the NoOnProp8 advertisement that ran in the San Jose Mercury News a couple of days ago.
But that doesn’t mean the proponents of the embarrassingly discriminatory measure can’t buy a little air time on Google Adsense. California residents who view sites that include Google Adsense ads today are seeing an advertisement that says “Support Marriage Rights - Vote Yes on Prop 8 To Protect Traditional Marriage.”
The ad links to protectmarriage.com (the good domain - yesonprop8.com - redirects to noonprop8.com, which must frustrate the gay-haters to no end).

It's always seemed to me that divorce is a much bigger and more active threat to traditional concepts of family and marriage than homosexuality. Just my 2 sense - thanks for highlighting the issue.
