Concern shifts to levee in Plaquemines Parish
Plaquemines Parish officials are concerned that a levee in Braithwaite, southeast of New Orleans, could burst.
"It could give way at any time,'' Parish President Billy Nungesser said.
Water from the Mississippi River has been going over the top of the levee, threatening a nearby neighborhood, Nola.com reports.
Workers are using sandbags to hold back the water and warning any residents who remain to flee.il.
"We don't think our efforts are going to be successful so we need to get everyone out now,'' Parish President Billy Nungesser said.
Officials told Nola.com that the same levee is also being overtopped farther south at Scarsdale.
It's unclear how many residents of the area stayed behind.
